About me
I am a BPS chartered counselling psychologist and psychoanalyst (BPAS) with extensive experience and skills in working with psychological and emotional problems in the NHS and other settings. I offer short-term, long-term and open-ended therapy at my office in Fitzrovia.
I am accredited with the BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council) as a dynamic interpersonal therapist and supervisor. I have had wide-ranging experience working at primary and secondary care levels in the NHS, working with common mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, panic disorder, OCD, health anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, trauma etc. I have experience and training in working with more complex and longstanding mental health problems such as interpersonal difficulties, bipolar affective disorder, severe depression, trauma and anxiety and currently work in the NHS in secondary care. I am a visiting lecturer at City University where I have taught on the doctoral program in counselling psychology.
About sessions
Our first meeting will be an opportunity to discuss what you would like from therapy. I draw on a variety of different models of psychotherapy such as:
Psychoanalysis
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy
Dynamic interpersonal therapy (DIT) (Accredited practitioner and supervisor)
Integrative Psychotherapy (drawing on different models)
How therapy helps?
Therapy can help people who are in emotional pain to find words to express what they are thinking and feeling in a safe and trusting environment. Each person has a different experience of what is causing suffering and each person needs an individual response which is anchored in psychological understanding.
What to expect in the first session?
The first couple of sessions can be viewed as a consultation. At the end of these sessions, there is the space to reflect on deciding whether it would be helpful to have a psychotherapy. During these preliminary sessions there is no obligation on your part to commit to engaging in therapy. Rather, this is a process whereby you can decide whether this kind of psychological treatment will be of help to you.
Supervision
I have supervised psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors in the NHS in primary and secondary care and offer clinical supervision to trainees and therapists.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have over twenty years of experience in mental health, and have worked with children, adolescents and adults.
After being awarded a doctorate on counseling psychology I received extensive post qualification training and accreditation in the NHS. I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and person-centred therapy. I draw on MBT (mentalisation-based therapy) and transference-focused psychotherapy. I am qualified as a psychoanalyst with the British Psychoanalytical Society.
